Senior Manager/Associate Director of Embedded Software Development

We are looking for a self-motivated Software Development Leader to drive the embedded software development of our current and next generation of portable diagnostics platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of embedded software engineers supporting current and next generation Rapid Diagnostics instruments products
  • Drive excellence in software development quality to ensure deliverables meet the highest standard of quality with predictable execution
  • Grow the expertise of the organization, bringing in talent to support the future products and technologies
  • Accountable for establishing best practices in software that lead to efficient development, support high quality software, and compliant to our Quality Management System
  • Evaluate current development processes and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Deploy task estimation techniques and metrics
  • Develop the talent of the team, mentor junior engineers, assess skills, provide recommendations on improvement opportunities
  • Ensure FDA regulations are correctly followed during development.
  • The right candidate for this position will be an experienced leader who has demonstrated success designing, documenting and implementing high quality embedded software running on different real time environments and platforms (e.g. μC, SoC).

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in delivering products for the medical for the Medical Device industry (IVD industry preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience as an embedded software engineer developing complex embedded systems.
  • 5+ years of experience managing embedded engineers and oversight for a team of 10+ engineers.
  • Able to lead a team of engineers to take complex designs from concept to implementation.
  • Experience using Agile methodologies (e.g. SCRUM, XP, TDD, etc)
  • Experience estimating and planning software development projects.
  • Be a proponent of formal unit testing, driving a team to deliver releases with high unit test coverage.
  • Proficient with Medical Device regulations (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls, FDA SW Guidelines…).
  • Experience developing software in RTOS environments (e.g. Windows Embedded Compact/CE, QNX, Linux/Ubuntu Embedded, VxWorks).
  • Familiarity with communications: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, wireless, Bluetooth, TCP/IP.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
  • Bachelor of Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent (MS preferred).

Preferred Experience

  • Experience developing code to interface with hardware and peripherals such as SoC peripherals, stepper motors, DC motors, pumps, valve, and protocols such as I2C, SPI, GPIO, UART, RS485, USB.
  • Knowledge of microcontrollers' architectural principles and understanding of the 'building blocks' of a modern embedded processor (preferred ARM).
  • Experience debugging embedded code with JTAG.
