Test Center Intern

Job Description:

* Conduct physical property tests on mineral samples. * Develop new methods and enhance current methods for physical property tests on minerals samples. * Liaise with associated academic departments to complete required testing and develop new methods * Troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate Test Center equipment as necessary to ensure efficient and accurate operations. * Demonstrates dependability and punctuality * Observes safety regulations and exhibits a concern for safety. Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements * Shows commitment to quality ethics and focuses on meeting the needs and expectations of both internal and external customers. * Manages time, skills and resources to produce maximum volume of work and reduction of errors. * Written and oral communications are organized, clear, concise and accurate. Listens carefully. Keeps others appropriately informed. * Demonstrates cooperative team effort within work group. Works effectively with other groups and departments. Demonstrates respect for others. * Assesses and prioritizes work requirements; develops and executes plans in a timely manner and accepts advice and/or direction well. * Possess initiative to take action, without specific direction, to originate and develop ideas; ability to see beyond immediate assignments to achieve results. * Undertakes any other duties as may be assigned by Manager, Test Center and other department staff.

* Strong mechanical / electrical aptitude * Ability to set up and perform testing and record data with minimal supervision * Ability to preserve confidential information * Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to accuracy and detail are essential * Good interpersonal skills are essential * Good communication skills are necessary * Must have ability to complete assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. * Computer skills are essential - Excel, Word, PowerPoint. PLC programming, AutoCad, Inventor and SolidWorks experience is a plus. * Must be capable of effectively and accurately work on several projects at one time in a fast-paced team environment.
Physical * Must be physically fit to perform manual labor * The ability to use all extremities to efficiently operate manual tools, power tools, office and computer equipment. * The ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise * The employee is required to stand, walk, and climb and balance. * The employee must lift and/or move 50 to 100 pounds repetitively during a day. * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus and to read meters and documents. * Frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. * Ability to hear is required * Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Preferred * Ability to perform welding, pipe fitting and wiring * Ability to safely operate a fork lift but must be certified * Knowledge of operation of firing systems * Strong engineering knowledge and analytical skills * Experience with laboratory procedures and experience with pyroprocessing equipment
