REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or accounting and five years of administrative and management experience with institutional budgeting and planning, financial policies, purchasing, travel, contracts and grants, and auditing.
Comprehensive understanding of university and departmental operating policies; proven ability to plan over a multiple years; and demonstrated problem solving skills performed in a timely and efficient manner. Possess a high degree of mental concentration and broad conceptual judgment; and ability to effectively manage people with a range of skills and personalities. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide variety of individuals. Strong organizational and time management skills including ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
MBA/MPAF; prior experience in managing a large department, school, or institute; interest in the sciences, research and Higher Ed.

The Director of Business is responsible for budget preparation, financial planning, establishment of adequate internal controls and processes, and management of all IU, IU Foundation, and externally funded accounts. This position is responsible for ensuring that the department follows all university financial and fiscal policies and procedures, as well as, complies with guidelines associated with externally sponsored funding. This position approves (or delegates approval for) all transactions, participates in financial planning, provides advice on proposed initiatives, and develops budgets including financial reporting. Position provides training and oversight to staff to ensure compliance with university, College, and department policies. Position must be proficient in IU, IU Foundation, and external funding accounting and IU HR policies for faculty and staff. This position works closely with personnel in the College Budget Office on financial matters related to the department.
This position must be able to work with faculty, staff, other departments, and administrators in a constructive, diplomatic, and informed manner. The position requires an intimate knowledge and appreciation of departmental activities, faculty, staff, and students, and requires sensitivity and confidentiality.
