REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in science or engineering, plus 3 years in scientific instrumentation operation, maintenance, repair and/or use.

The Engineer is a full-time, exempt employee. The main purpose of this position is to provide instrumental and operations leadership, maintenance, and support for the full complement of instrumentation, specialized facilities, and administrative function for oversight of our capital equipment base. Operations of the teaching labs require critical and time sensitive management for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting problems in operation that are top priorities and urgency due to the need for curricular use. This position provides and identifies sources of training for departmental students, staff and faculty on instrument operation and best practices/standards of operation. This position also provides limited computer support to faculty and staff applicable to instrumentation-based computers and the use of specialized software packages. This position supervises work function of our technical employees and establishes synergistic communication to ensure our instrumentation and support functions operate synergistically. Additionally, the Engineer provides back-up support to the research labs by assisting when needed as well as providing departmental technical maintenance and liaison role with campus facilities. Building maintenance concerns or requests originate in this position to ensure that repairs are made and the department and building are in good condition and operating effectively.
