General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The Plant Chemist is responsible for the Quality Assurance system at the plant level. This Plant Chemist participates as a member of the plant management team by bringing the quality control perspective into the local planning and decision-making process.

Key Skills and Abilities Include:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in the chemical-related area combined with at least four years of field-related experience.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient user of computer technology and applications, such as accounting, Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

  • Test and formulate raw materials to determine that the analysis is within specification. Report any material determined to be out of spec.
  • Implement statistical process control. Develop and administer approved laboratory techniques and procedures for quality assurance.
  • Calculate fertilizer formulations to assure that production is in accordance with the predetermined specifications and to minimize raw material consumption.
  • Approve finished product for shipment by testing N-P-K.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of supplies and chemicals within the laboratory to assure continuous operations.
  • Schedule routine maintenance on existing laboratory equipment. Determine a replacement plan for laboratory equipment and request additional new equipment in the five-year capital budget plan. Assist with the development of expense budget, as requested.
  • Troubleshoot quality problems reported in the field or at the plant and recommend an action plan to resolve.
  • Provide technical support to our sales force.
  • Inventory responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
